In case you missed it: web developer Mark Foyle from Swindon (UK) started a competition to find out which supermarket sells the best mince pie in all the land. Virtually every British supermarket imaginable jumped in. The Great British Mince Off was born.
1. Previously on The Great British Mince Off…
So M&S come in with a 7 due to very nice pastry. Lidl come in at a 6, but a judge’s note that they are amazing value for money! Yum!! 😋 pic.twitter.com/7NeLCWsQZ1

2. M&S ended up on top after the first couple of days.
Every other supermarket, when they realise nothing beats M&S . . . pic.twitter.com/GaWKsmPoiq

3. And now, the battle continues.

I’ve had to pull in a team of tasters to help me – we are just tucking in to the @coopuk luxury mince pies and the @waitrose all butter mince pies… #drumroll #mincepietasteoff Will either unseat @marksandspencer? pic.twitter.com/iajaLDjd5b
— Mark Foyle (@m4rko) November 8, 2017
5. Unfortunately for Co-Op and Waitrose, they didn’t manage to dethrone M&S.
And the results are in!@coopukfood score a respectable 6 (loving the dusting!) whilst @Waitrose score 6.5. Current leaders with a slight lead are @marksandspencer! Who’s up next?! 😊 pic.twitter.com/pzIYAp24KZ
— Mark Foyle (@m4rko) November 8, 2017
6. And M&S are fine with that.
We’re keeping hold of this for now if that’s okay 🙂 pic.twitter.com/pyDWInbJbh
— M&S (@marksandspencer) November 8, 2017
7. Looks like Tesco is finally entering the ring.
Count us in Mark… pic.twitter.com/Cafcy9ztc4
— Tesco (@Tesco) November 8, 2017
8. The pies are ready for the tasting.
Righty, @Tesco we have secured the pies. We’ve gone with your Finest. They look good through the “pie box window” 🙂 pic.twitter.com/dFZQwxDec0
— Mark Foyle (@m4rko) November 9, 2017
9. But Tesco is MIA.
Hey @Tesco we are ready to give you your score!! But where are you?! Maybe @LidlUK can entertain us while we wait… pic.twitter.com/DUy44H9JhU
— Mark Foyle (@m4rko) November 9, 2017
10. Marks and Spencer are missing their friends.
We’re not worried about Tesco 😉 Also, why go to Aldi for value bants when the Social Media pros are here? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ pic.twitter.com/jfqeSRkk3v
— M&S (@marksandspencer) November 9, 2017
11. In the meantime, Lidl has been summoned.

**Passes over the aloe vera** pic.twitter.com/aTIHs6xtmu
— Booths (@BoothsCountry) November 10, 2017
20. Lidl requests a rematch!
I’d say the real burn is that our basic Favorina mince pies got the same score as Finest*…and there are more in a pack…and they cost less… when our Deluxe range clock in then we’ll talk. 😉 pic.twitter.com/mXJYjDwULb
— Lidl UK (@LidlUK) November 10, 2017
21. M&S noticed that the above tweet wasn’t Lidl’s first response.
Hey @lidlUK… do you know what happens when you delete a tweet then reword your ‘burn’? Do you know what happens when you try and keep up with our bants? Well Lidl…. pic.twitter.com/fjHntKRKg4

23. Mark realizes something truly special is happening here.
One day, people will recall the Mince Pie Wars of 2017 & we will all recall the way it played out. @Morrisons, stand by for your score pic.twitter.com/uPWMJvssZL
